Action Needed: Help Protect & Strengthen Solar in California
As we write this the California state government is actively considering new policies that will impact the further expansion of solar in California. While this pending decision is not expected to affect our current customers’ solar system or electricity bill savings, it will impact the accessibility and affordability of new rooftop solar installations for your neighbors, schools and local small businesses.
The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) is the state’s regulatory body that governs energy rates including rooftop solar policies. They are currently reviewing the net energy metering (NEM) program which has created today’s policies that have helped ensure consumer solar energy generates electricity bill savings and increases grid resiliency by allowing you to share excess energy with your neighbors.
This is why we are writing to encourage you to send an email to Governor Newsom and the CPUC urging them to continue to keep California in the lead with rooftop solar.
California’s leadership on rooftop solar and storage has helped increase access to clean, local and reliable power, kept the lights on during blackouts and in wildfire-stricken communities, and helped reduce electricity bills for more and more Californians.
However, utilities like PG&E, SDG&E and SCE are lobbying the CPUC to adopt a proposal that would essentially gut the NEM program, enact fees on all future solar customers regardless of income level, and provide no incentive or benefit to help Californians who want to power their homes and businesses with solar and battery storage.
Your voice can make a difference and taking action will help keep California in the lead with rooftop solar. There are a number of ways to get involved to show your support to protect and strengthen solar in our state to ensure it is accessible and affordable for everyone.
● Send an email to the Governor and CPUC to urge their support for rooftop solar
● Are you a local business, school or organization? Consider signing onto the Save California Solar coalition.
● Share your story: How has rooftop solar and battery storage has helped you reduce your reliance on big utilities and kept your home running and your family safe during a blackout.
Thank you for your consideration. Your support will make a difference in keeping solar affordable and accessible in our community and for all Californians.
